The most common questions people ask about celebrex include: What does the drug do to treat COX-1?

If you’re curious about Celebrex’s mechanism of action, you may have heard of this drug’s name: Celecoxib. This drug belongs to a class of drugs called Cox-2 inhibitors. It works by blocking a specific enzyme, which is responsible for breaking down a chemical called COX-1 in the body. When you take Celebrex, it blocks the COX-1 enzyme to break down the drug, leading to its action.

Celecoxib is an effective treatment for COX-1 and can reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes. However, it is important to use Celebrex only for the treatment of heart disease, specifically in people with certain risk factors or who have other medical conditions that may increase the risk of heart disease. If you have heart disease or other risk factors, it is recommended that you take Celebrex with a medical or other prescription drug.

Some medical experts believe that taking Celebrex during a routine heart exam can lower the risk of heart disease. However, there is a slight increased risk of stroke or heart attack in Celebrex users. This risk is slightly increased by a lower dosage of Celebrex or taking a higher dose of Celebrex.

If you are taking Celebrex regularly and have a history of heart disease, you should avoid taking Celebrex. In most cases, you will need to use Celebrex regularly to reduce your risk of heart disease.

If you experience any symptoms of low blood pressure, dizziness, or weakness while taking Celebrex, stop immediately and contact your doctor.

Celebrex does not prevent cancer. If you experience any of the following, talk to your doctor about ways to prevent or treat COX-1.

Celebrex® has been approved for use by prescription in non-pregnant adults (over 18 years of age). If you have been taking the generic version of Celebrex (celecoxib), you should not take this medicine. Ask your doctor before taking Celebrex on a daily basis for at least 7 days. If you take more medicine for Celebrex (celecoxib), your dose will have to be coordinated with your regular medicine daily medication dose. Celebrex can be taken with or without food.

Celebrex will not help you if you do not have a reduced total cholesterol level, or high (LDL or high-density) triglycerides level, or low (HDL or low) high density lipoproteins.

Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of treatment based on symptoms and laboratory test values. Taking too much of this medicine can lead to serious side effects such as bleeding problems, ulcers, or clotting problems. Talk to your doctor about talking to your doctor about the best dose for you.

Do not take Celebrex if you are allergic to -

  • any medicines including aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen (Aleve®)
  • corticosteroids such as prednisone or dexamethasone (Depoc®), cortisone (Abreva®), granulocyte-colipulor (Gynytrons®) macrophage colony-stimulating peritoneal syndrome (Gosamapro®) or eosinophilic eosinophils (eosinophil colony-stimulating peritoneal dialysate (eclidin®), leukaemia treatment eosinophil gel (leukaemia treatment eosinophil gel))
  • allopurinol (Celebrex)

Stop using Celebrex and get medical advice from your doctor before you take any new medicine. Celebrex can decrease your natural immune response (that is, your body’s ability to fight infection or prevent it from coming back). Therefore, do not stop using Celebrex suddenly without talking to your doctor. Only take Celebrex if your doctor has told you to.

You can take Celebrex with or without food. However, taking Celebrex alongside a meal will help you take your medicine at the optimal time. However, a meal that contains fat will not help you take your Celebrex. Instead, your body will need to use a combination of fat and carbohydrates (gastric and colistimed) to absorb the medicine effectively. If you take Celebrex with a meal, your body will need to absorb more fat.

It is not recommended to take Celebrex with food or when you are sick (such as dairy products) as it can prevent the medicine from working effectively from a food- or dietary-diet perspective.

If you take Celebrex with a meal, you will need to take extra precautions when taking Celebrex along with a meal. If you eat or drink grapefruit juice (or other foods with grapefruit content), you may take extra Celebrex along with your meal. Also, avoid alcohol because it will reduce the effectiveness of the medicine.

Some people have reported side effects from taking Celebrex. Tell your doctor about any side effects you have at least 2 weeks after you stop using Celebrex. Some side effects can be serious. These include:

  • chest pain
  • difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • fast, irregular, or irregular heart beat
  • frequent, pounding heartbeat
  • frequent, deep, or irregular heartbeat
  • frequent, deep, or hardening pain or bleeding in your stomach or intestines
  • pain or bleeding that is severe or lasts for more than a few days
  • severe headache
  • severe stomach pain
  • unusual bleeding or bruising
  • unusual tiredness
Celebrex may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, or allergic reactions. If you have any of these side effects, tell your doctor immediately.

Stopping too quickly may cause drowsiness.

If you forget to take Celebrex, take your next dose as soon as possible.
